About Me

Janene is a licensed massage therapist in Columbia MO. She has been licensed in Missouri since 2001 and also in the state of Washington since 1997. In 1997, she joined the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and she became certified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. She graduated from the Moscow School of Massage (in Moscow, Idaho) in November 1996.

Currently, she teaches at the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri (www.mtim.org). She teaches a range of classes including Event Massage, Therapeutic Stretching, Positional Release and Muscle Energy Technique, Myofascial Release (and Anatomy Trains) and Kinesiology. She and MTIM are also teaming up to offer continuing education to professional bodyworkers by way of a Sports Massage Specialist certificate. This is a series of 4 classes, each 24 hrs in length, designed to give a therapist a strong foundation in sports, or clinical, massage. For more information, visit www.massageschoolmissouri.com.

Janene specializes in Sports Massage, which can also be referred to as Clinical Massage. Her techniques of choice are Muscle Energy Technique and Positional Release, but she would also recommend Active Isolated Stretching. She believes that these techniques have a greater impact on the muscles and fascia in the body than a ‘regular’ full body deep tissue massage.

A majority of her continuing education classes have been through the Ursa Institute, in Edmonds, WA (just north of Seattle), and more recently URSA, in Sacramento, CA. Her instructors have been Dr. Loren Rex, DO (although to his students, friends and acquaintances, he is known simply as ‘Bear’) and Lino Cedros, ATC. This is where she learned Muscle Energy Technique and Cranial Mobilization. (For more information about URSA, or Bear, visit their website at www.bearonline.com and for Lino Cedros, visit www.kinectionsinc.com.)

She is the director of the Missouri Sports Massage Team, which is sponsored by AMTA and has team members in Columbia, Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield and Caruthersville. The MSMT provides pre and post event massages at different events around the state, like the Kansas City Marathon, Run for the Ranch Marathon, Heart of America Marathon, the MS 150 in Columbia and Sedalia, the Special Olympics Summer Games in Springfield, and several events with Ultramax Events (Shakespeare MaxTrax Duathlon, TRIZOU, Jay Dix Challenge to Cure 10K, Joker’s Wild Half Marathon, and Republic Tri,) just to name a few.

Janene is blessed to be married to Carlos and they both enjoy spending time with their dog, a giant Pomeranian (at 20 lbs!) named Ricky. They just recently moved into a new house and love being just barely out in the country with an acre of property.

Janene is a Juice Plus Distributor. Juice Plus is 17 different fruits, vegetables and grains in an easy to swallow capsule. Increase your anti-oxidants by eating papaya and kale (but not at the same time). However, if you are like me and are not sure how to eat, or prepare, papaya and kale, make it easy on yourself and just take Juice Plus! You’ll get all the nutrients found in those unique foods, plus a whole lot more
